Expansion of data
We are excited to announce a major enhancement to DATAportl with the addition of revenue and average selling price (ASP) data across many of the device market tracked. This powerful new layer of information moves beyond shipment volumes, giving you a complete picture of market value and profitability to drive smarter, more strategic decisions.
From Peripherals to Powertrains
The ASP Spectrum Understanding the Average Selling Price (ASP) is crucial for identifying where the real value lies in the market. Our new data reveals a vast spectrum of pricing, from PC peripherals like a standard mouse with an ASP of around $20, to a Hybrid Electric Bus commanding nearly $500,000. This level of detail allows for more nuanced strategic planning; for example, while the standard PC mouse market is large, the gaming mouse segment offers an ASP almost three times higher, highlighting a potentially more lucrative niche for component suppliers to target.
Revenue Reveals the Market Dynamics
Relying on unit shipments alone can paint a misleading picture of a market's health and composition. A perfect example is the passenger car market. In 2024, Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles accounted for nearly two-thirds of all shipments. However, when viewed through the lens of revenue, their share drops to half of the market's total value for the year, due to the higher ASP of electric and hybrid models. This type of insight is critical for accurately assessing market share and forecasting revenue opportunities.

Strategic Takeaway
For semiconductor professionals, the ability to compare markets by value, not just volume, is a game-changer. While high-volume consumer markets like laptops and smart TVs represent some of the largest segments by revenue, their value is dwarfed by lower-volume mobility markets, such as ICE Trucks.
This new data allows product marketing, strategy, and market intelligence teams to more accurately calculate their Total Addressable Market (TAM), justify resource allocation, and pinpoint high-value design-win opportunities that might otherwise be overlooked. It shifts the focus from "how many units are sold?" to "where is the most value created?"

Platform Updates
The major additions to DATAportl are discussed above, the addition of ASP and revenue data for many markets is a major update. There have also been several smaller updates, the most impactful are as follows:
The definition for buses has been refined to remove high volume minibus type conversions of LCVs (light commercial vehicles), to focus on “large passenger vehicle designed to carry numerous passengers, typically on fixed routes for public or private transport.” This has had a major impact on the data for the 3 bus categories - Bus ICE, Bus BEV, Bus HEV.
Regional data has been expanded to cover personal mobility markets such as scooters, motorcycles, eBikes and more.
